Age Friendly Ireland Awards Set for Next October

Age Friendly Ireland has announced the official date for the 2026 National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, 8 October, at the Limerick Strand Hotel, hosted by Limerick City and County Council. The event will honour projects and initiatives that have made a tangible and meaningful difference in the lives of older people across the country.

This year's awards feature ten distinct categories, aligned with the eight World Health Organisation (WHO) Age-Friendly Themes, namely: Community Support and Health Services; Civic Participation and Employment; Communication and Information; Social Participation; Respect and Social Inclusion; Housing; Transportation; and Outdoor Spaces and Buildings.

The awards aim to spotlight innovative projects that deliver real-world impact on the daily lives of older people, whether at local or national level, with a strong emphasis on initiatives that can be showcased and replicated. The organising committee places particular value on scalable and transferable models, recognising their potential to foster a culture of innovation in elderly care across Ireland.

The judging panel is scheduled to conduct on-site visits to the shortlisted projects from 20 July to 7 August 2026, during which the panel will assess first-hand the quality, effectiveness and sustainability of each project. Applicants have been required to ensure their availability throughout this period to facilitate these essential evaluation visits.

It is worth noting that the application window for the awards has now officially closed. The winners are set to be announced at the grand ceremony in Limerick on 8 October, marking one of the most significant events of the year dedicated to celebrating and advancing efforts to enhance the quality of life for older people throughout Ireland.
